Vintage Western Movie Posters
Vintage movie posters have for many years brought great memories of older
days. The movie posters, often very elaborate in detail, were used as a
form of advertisement for the movie that was showing. One of the most
valuable and collectible vintage movie posters are the Western movie
posters.
Vintage Western movie posters are truly unique. The rarity of the
posters is something to be admired. It has been documented that over one
hundred thousand movies have been created to date. Of those movies created,
there were approximately 10 different posters available per movie. The
number of posters that have been created may seem very large, but it is
surprising to realize that only 20% of all of those posters have survived.
This is due to the fact that many of the posters were destroyed from
weather, overuse, etc. To make it even more rare, is the fact that those
posters were printed in very limited quantities. During the hype of golden
cinema days, movie studios were scrutinized for every movie that they made.
Therefore, all of the movie posters that were created and distributed were
given directly to the movie theaters. To make the Western posters even
more rare, it is estimated that only a few of the 300,000 posters to
remain are indeed Western.
There are also different ways to value and price the old Western movie
posters. It is best to keep in mind that many, if not all, of the Western
movie posters at one time or another, hung in movie theaters. The
conditions of the posters may vary, depending on the amount of use and
exposure that the poster had received. Another important fact to take into
consideration about the vintage western movie posters is that they were sent
to the theaters from the printers, folded, so they'd fit into the mailing
envelope.
Those points given, it is easy to understand that vintage Western movie
posters are truly a rare and collectible find. Those that collect the
vintage posters are truly lucky to have "mint condition" western posters
in their collection. They are not only highly regarded, but truly a look
into cinema's historical past.
