Long Lasting Love with Teddy Bears
One of the most beloved toys ever created is the teddy bear. With the teddy
bear being so popular and coming in many different forms, one may find it
hard to believe that the teddy bear was not created until 1902. Luckily for
collectors today, the teddy bear remains one of the most accessible and
valuable toys to collect.
There is a legend behind the creation of the teddy bear. It is believed
that President Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt was known for going hunting in the
Mississippi area. President Roosevelt and his friends came across a baby
bear that President Roosevelt refused to kill. A cartoonist mocked
Roosevelt and his decision not to shoot the baby bear in many of his
cartoons. The cartoon became so popular that it was reprinted in many
newspapers around the country. One couple in particular was so moved by
President Roosevelt's actions that the became inspired to create a stuffed
animal bear. Taking after its name sake, the teddy bear was born.
The original teddy bears were created by the Ideal Novelty and Toy Company.
Three years after its creation, the teddy bear became a huge craze in all of
America. With the teddy bear being very versatile for different creations,
teddy bears were being sold at an alarming rate.
During the 1920's and 30's the teddy bear took on a new creation as many
were being sold as mechanical and musical. This started another wave of
interest and popularity for the teddy bear.
On today's market, an original teddy bear in very good condition can fetch
thousands of dollars. Collectors find that they have a wide array of teddy
bears to choose from. As the times change, so do teddy bears. One thing
remains certain, however; teddy bears are forever loved and are here to
stay.
