Some Like it Hot with a Vintage Tea Pot

For many centuries, tea has been seen as a beverage delicacy. Often served with dessert, meals, or just by itself, it is enjoyed world wide. Years ago, tea was bartered, traded, and used as currency.

Just as important as tea is, so is the pot that it comes in. Many tea pots are used to either cook the tea, or to simply house the tea for serving purposes. Thousands of years ago, it is believed that the Chinese created the first tea pots. Some of the earliest tea pots are believed to be dated from the 6th century AD. It was not until the 16th century that Chinese tea ware was being used.

From 1573 to 1940, there are approximately four different categories that the teapots took on. The first period, the teapots took on a "pumpkin" shape. The tea pot in this time seemed to have a wrinkle like texture. The next two periods included tea pots that took on the shapes of plants and animals. It has been long believed in the Chinese culture that different animals represent various things, such as good fortune, and prosperity. The last period ending in 1940 showed a reversal in style. It seemed as though the tea pots that were being created took on the appearance of tea pots from the past.

Vintage tea pots are one of the most sought after items in a vintage collection. With the vast amount of years from the original creation of the tea pot to today, there are many tea pots that are considered as vintage. Many families like to pass down their tea set collection from generation to generation. This is a wonderful way of keeping a family heirloom alive. What the tea pot is made of, how old it is, and the condition it is in will dictate as to hoe much money it could bring at an auction. Vintage tea pots are not only a wonderful asset, but truly a piece of history, too.
