Military Swords
The United States military has been enacted for over a hundred years now.
The purpose of the US Military is to serve and protect the United States. In
order for the soldiers to be protected, and have the ability to fight, there
must be different forms of weapons that are used. Among those weapons that
are now vintage are military swords.
Among some of the oldest military swords are swords from the Civil War era.
Many of these swords were left behind on the battle fields after a soldier
had fallen. Although many of the deceased soldiers' comrades attempted to
pick up and keep the swords for the troop, it was not always possible. Often
times, entire groups of troops were demolished from the enemy they were
fighting against. The battlefields soon became seas of unearthed cemeteries.
Many of the perished soldiers were not given a proper burial as there were
too many soldiers to bury. As a result, many of the soldiers were buried
together, and often times with their military gear. Over the years, many
scavengers have discovered the swords from the Civil War era, as well as
others wars that have been fought on American territory.
Such swords have become historical and collectible pieces of American
history. Many of the swords that have been collected are now on display
with museums, as well as traveling historical shows. Other swords have been
passed down in families, and are truly irreplaceable artifacts of the United
States military. Swords that survived military battles are now a highly
popular commodity amongst collectors. There are various companies and
organizations that sell and are looking for official military released
swords. Vintage swords can be seen being sold at a rate of $500.00 and up.
They are indeed expensive pieces of militaria, but there is no price that
can be paid for the many soldiers that have given their lives fighting for
the freedom that we have today.
