European Flair - Vintage Solido Die Cast Cars
The Solido company is one of the most prestigious European toy die cast companies around. Originated in 1932 in France, founder and creator Ferdinand de Vazelles put
his passion for cars and toys together into one. Also following other
popular makers on the market at the time, de Vazalles knew that he had an
item that would sell.
Ferdinand created his toys up until the mid 1950's when his
three children took over the company. Since then, they truly forced the
company to evaluate themselves and move upwards with production and ideas.
They soon moved from the original die cast kits to real scales of the then
prominent vehicles. In 1973, the Solido company was purchased by the
prominent "The French Toys" company. The Solido toy factory made its home
in Normandy, France in 1974, where is still resides to this day. Although
ownership and company locations changed over time, one thing is for certain;
the quality of the toys only changed from great to greater.
Collectors of the miniature scale cars can find them mostly on the internet,
as they originate overseas in Europe. There are a few online stores and
auctions that carry the priceless Solido cars as well. The cars, mostly
built on a scale of 1:64, are reminiscent of the vehicles seen in Europe,
such as the double decker buses. Miniature European cars, such as station
wagons, are a huge hit among the collectors. Other Solido favorites are the
Porsche, 1926 Hispano, the Citroen, and the mini Cooper, just to name a
few. These miniature cars make a fun addition for anyone seeking die cast
cars with a foreign flair. Whether they are purchased in the United States,
or from overseas, Solido cars can truly spark a lot of interest for any
collector.
