Snuff Tins

Many people enjoy chewing tobacco, also commonly called "snuff." Snuff has been around for hundreds of years. Many people appreciate snuff, including miners. Miners can enjoy the taste of tobacco while they use snuff. Miners must use snuff instead of cigarettes, as the earth's natural gases can become explosive when exposed to cigarettes or an open flame from a cigarette lighter or matches. For as long as miners have enjoyed snuff, there have also been snuff tins. Snuff tins are small and decorative tins that the miners carried their snuff in. The tins could be carried in the workers pockets, making it much easier to carry and transport while working in the mines. It would also make for a quick tobacco fix should the worker need it.

Many people now collect the vintage snuff tins. These tins were usually an oval shape, and could fit in the palm of ones hands. Welsh miners often had the snuff tins stamped with the miner's name, as well as address. The Welsh snuff tins were usually made of brass, and were about 3 inches long. The hinged lid on the snuff tins made for easier access to the tobacco as well. These are just a few of the characteristics and reasons as to why tobacciana enthusiasts are eager to collect the snuff tins.

The snuff tins are hard to come by, and on rare occasion, can be found thru tobacciana dealers. On line web sites also prove profitable for collectors, as they can then look all over the world for a snuff tin. Many online dealers will also ship all over the world, thus making it easier for any collector to purchase from out of the country that they reside in. Snuff tins are indeed a collectible item, as well as a tangible piece of world history.
