Smoking Pipes
They have been seen in cinematic movies. They are talked about in classic
novels. Sherlock Holmes was known to have one in his mouth at all times.
What is it that has been so popular over the years that many people even use
as well as collect?
All of the above factors have had smoking pipes come into play. Pipes have
been around for hundreds of years. Native Americans have used pipes to blow
smoke during certain ceremonies. The various pipes that Native Americans
have used, have been for pleasure, or to ward off evil spirits. The extent
of the pipes being used on the Native American culture various as much as
the cultures themselves.
Other cultures also use pipes for various reasons. Many actors have used
pipes in scenes from classic movies. Even the Christmas Carol " Frosty the
Snow Man" talks about how Frosty has a corn cob pipe. The pipes vary as
much as the reason for using them. Pipes can be made of corn cob, as in the
Frosty song, or can be newer, and have just the little bowl for the tobacco
to go into. Earth excavators have even found primitive pipes that were
created hundreds, if not thousands of years ago. These types of pipes are
often on display at national museums, or at a local museum near the
unearthed area.
Pipe collectors, users and enthusiasts can find vintage pipes for sale thru
online resources, such as eBay, or online stores. Antique tobacciana
collectors will also often trade one pipe for another, also called a "swap"
if you will. Individuals that also look at online forums and boards will
also find pipes that may be sold, as well as people that are wanting to buy
a particular type of pipe. With the vast amounts of pipes that are
available, it is almost for certain that someone will able to find the pipe
that they long for.
