Vintage Sewing Patterns

For hundreds of years, women have created homemade clothing. In the days before sewing machines, all clothing was sewn by hand. Each stitch was painstakingly created with love for the clothing item. Once sewing machines came out to the public on the selling market, it took the nation on a selling frenzy. Women were saving their money and purchasing a sewing machine, saving them tons of manual labor time on creating clothing for themselves and others.

With the creation of sewing machines came sewing patterns as well. Sewing patterns were sold for pennies on the dollar, and could be used again and again for many fabric patterns. The sewing patterns, ranging from simplistic to highly detailed, were all the rage. Companies such as Simplicity, Vogue, and others prided themselves in creating patterns that could be used by many women all over the nation and world. Women appreciated the easy to follow patterns. The patterns opened many women's eyes to fashion and to new ideas that they had never seen before. The patterns varied from infant's clothing to men's clothing. The sewing pattern packets came with sizes on them so people could easily locate a pattern that was sure to fit them. This also saved time on taking measurements, as the patterns were created to size.

Vintage sewing patterns have been around for years. People still seek older patterns, as fashion has a tendency to repeat itself. Many patterns were passed around among friends, as well as from mother to daughter. Patterns that were sold at an original price of $3 or $4 are now easily being sold for twice that amount. No matter what the price is on vintage sewing patterns, girls young and old can appreciate history's past and simplicity with the easy to follow patterns.
