A Cut Above the Rest -The Vintage Shaving Razor

Many years ago, the shaving razor was simply a straight edge razor blade. The razor would be sharpened on a leather strap. When a man was shaving his face and he would have to go very slowly and be very cautious so as to not cut himself. Varying in length, but usually several inches long, the razor blade was extremely sharp after sharpening on the leather strap.

Over time, the shaving razor blade has seen many changes. Since the creation of one of the first razor blades, there is now a wide array of razor blades and styles. The vintage shaving razor blade is still available. Now there are disposable razors, available for both men and women. Some shaving razors come with one blade, while others may have up to four. Electric razors are one of the most popular shaving razors that are available today. People appreciate the preciseness and agility that an electric razor head has. Many electric razor heads are movable, and therefore can adhere to the curves in the body much easier, eliminating more hair. However, vintage razor blades, also known as switchblades or straight razors, are still used in some barber shops, as older men prefer to shave with what they know and feel most comfortable with.

Some vintage collectors have a vast amount of shaving razor blades in their collections. Vintage shaving razor blades are easy to locate, and often come with several razor blades to a package. Online resources, such as eBay, as well as antique dealers almost always carry some sort of vintage razor blade. It is reported that people all around the world have a vintage razor blade collection that amounts between 4,000 to even 20,000 vintage razor blades! Those numbers are staggering! One thing is for certain, though; there will always be a need for razor blades, vintage or new.
