Vintage Broadway Playbills
Some of the most fascinating and interesting plays to watch appear live on
Broadway. Broadway Street in New York City, New York, has housed some of
the finest plays ever to be brought to the public stage. As a token of the
play, paper pamphlets, otherwise called a " Playbill" are handed out to
every person that is there in attendance.
Playbills are always full of information. The cover of a Playbill will most
likely have a picture of the play, such as a copy of a promotional poster,
as well as the name of the play, and which theater it is playing in. The
inside of the Playbill is always chock full of information. There is
information about the play, often telling a summary of what the play is
about. There is also information about each performer, including their
bios, as well as pictures. Other information about the play, including who
created it, the music score, etc, can all be found in a Playbill. Many
companies yearn to find an advertising spot in a Playbill, especially if the
play is very popular, such as Phantom of the Opera, or Fiddler on the Roof.
Vintage Playbills bring back many fond memories for so many people. Vintage
Playbills have all of the same information as today's Playbills, but show
information and advertisements from that time period. Classic Broadway
Playbills from such productions as Annie or Cats, are often seen as collectible.
Older Broadway plays that had huge on-stage stars, often have collectors
that are seeking copies of the original Playbills. Although these types of
Playbills may be hard to find, they make a wonderful addition to a Playbill
collection. Many collectors like to make shadow boxes out of their Playbill
collections. Others like to keep the Playbills as close to mint condition as
possible, by keeping them away from direct light and air exposure. The
combination of the two can create discoloration on the Playbills themselves.
It is fun to watch the times change the appearances and plays on Broadway.
Although the times may change, the Playbills will remain a constant factor
with any Broadway play. As long as there are Playbills created, there will
be collectors that will seek to keep them.
