Vintage Playart Die Cast Cars
Many people consider die cast toys to be made on a small or even large scale
to its replica. The fact of the matter is, there are many die cast cars and
toys that are indeed very small. One of the toy companies that created a
miniature vehicle reproduction is the Playart company.
The Playart company produced many small cars. The calling for the creation
of Playart toys came as a response to the success of the Hot Wheels cars
that came out in America. Hong Kong decided to create their own version of
the miniature car in the 1970's and 80's. Created on a scale of 1:64, they
stirred up a lot of buzz on the toy market. This is due to the fact that at
that time, there had not been another die cast toy company that had created
so many die cast on such a small scale. An important factor to keep in mind
is that the die cast cars are not dated on the bottom as their counterparts
were. Therefore, it is believed that the earliest Playart die cast car
created was in the late 1960's. The history of the Playart car is hard to
locate, as it is all bits and pieces. One thing is for certain, though.
Playart die cast cars that were created were very popular until a sudden
stop in manufacturing in the 1980's. The reason for stop production is
unclear, just as its productive history.
There are may websites available on the internet that are created by Playart
collectors. Due to the short time period of production and distribution,
many collectors would prefer to either purchase or trade pieces amongst one
another. Some collectors have a vast collection of these popular, yet short
lived, toys. Information for Playart toys is sketchy and scattered, but ask
any Playart collector if they have a classic toys, and it is guaranteed that
the overwhelming answer is yes.
