Baking Up the Goods with a Vintage Pie Crimper
Some of the greatest comfort smells in the world comes straight out of a
home kitchen. Apple pies, cherry pie, pumpkin pie...all so delicious to eat.
The smell of a hot pie baking in the oven can truly bring back fond
memories of yesteryears for many people.
Pies have been a delicacy for dessert for hundreds of years. As pies
have evolved over the years, so have the tools that have been used to create
them. One of the handiest tools used in creating a pie is the vintage pie
crimper. The pie crimper is used to "crimp" or seal the crust on the pie.
Many women over the years have truly adored the pie crimper. There is
usually a cutting wheel that can aid in cutting dough into strips for
lattice topped crusts. Different designs are crafted to the edges of the pie
wheel, creating various designs for the crusts. The pie cripmer can also
help to create designs on the top of the crusts, such as circles, squares,
hearts, and other various cut outs.
Vintage pie crimpers are a great collector's items. Older pie crimpers were
made out of many materials, including steel and even whale bone. In 2004, a nineteenth century vintage whalebone pie crimper was auctioned at a staggering price. At the auction, the pie crimper had a starting bid of $1,000. In the end, the vintage whale bone pie crimper was sold for an amazing $5,280. To date, that is one of the highest paid offers for a pie crimper.
Pie bakers and connoisseurs can have a fun time creating pies with vintage
pie crimpers. The possibilities are endless when it comes to a vintage pie
crimper. Time can be saved, and fun can be had by all when using a pie
crimper.
