Vintage Penny Postcards
One of the many beloved vintage ephemera hobbies that is known around the
world is collecting penny post cards. Penny postcards have been collected
for many years, and continue to grow year after year. The interest in penny
postcards are never ending, and the collections of vintage ephemera are only
bound to grow even more.
One of the many ways that settlers and people traveling across the US
remembered their travels were with penny postcards. Named after its
purchasing price, penny postcards were simply that - worth a penny. The
pictures depicted favorite locales, such as saloons and churches, or even
main street downtown, U.S.A. This drew great interest among many people
as they could afford to collect picture postcards of all of the locations
that they had visited. Pictures that reminded people of places that they
had visited were seen as true souvenirs. Penny postcards were also sent
among families and friends. Pictures of far away lands and places that
others could only dream of going were true collectible items for so many.
Over time, the postcard collections grew, and were passed down from one
generation to another. The pictures of new and old, as well as the familiar
and unfamiliar, is what attracted so many. The penny postcards of
yesteryear make for fun and collectible items. So many stories can be told
with just a simple penny postcard. Nowadays, penny postcards can be found
in abundance on many online forums. Not only are there many penny
postcards available for sale, but the colorful penny postcards can be
purchased very cheaply. Even mint condition vintage penny postcards can
be located at a selling rate of a mere few dollars.
Pictures speak a thousand words, and penny postcards sure can tell many fond
tales.
