Military Medals
The military has issued medals for many different reasons and services since
the Civil War. Many soldiers pride themselves in the medals that they have
earned. There are many different medals available to a soldier, and quite
often, it depends on the branch of service that the soldier is serving in.
To date, there are numerous medals that have existed to the American
soldier. There are medals that hail from the Civil War. Such a medal that
would be found in excellent condition would indeed be a valuable piece of
memorabilia for any collector. Many of the military medals that are issued
hang from a ribbon. The ribbon has a pin on the back of it, which is then
pinned in a precise manner upon a soldiers uniform. Such medals that have
been issued to the soldiers from the military include bronze stars, silver
stars, and gold stars. Other such prestigious medals are the purple heart.
This is often given to those that have lost their lives, or have been
injured in the line of duty. The purple heart is one of the most
distinguished, humble, and well known medals of the United States military.
Anniversary commemorative medals also prove valuable and collectible to many
of the soldiers that have received them. Any medal that is received is truly
a sign of honor, and the more medals that a soldier receives, the more "
distinguished" they are in the eyes of other military members.
Military collectors often have several, if not many, medals in their
military collections. Many individuals that collect medals also own medals
that they have earned, or medals that their ancestors earn. Medals are
indeed pieces of family history, and therefore, many individuals do not care
to sell the family heirlooms. They are proud of their ancestors
achievements, and want to keep the medals in the family, and out of the
hands of any less-appreciative recipients. Military medal collectors all
know the many sacrifices that the soldiers had to endure to receive the
precious medals, and honor their sacrifices. Above all, no price can be
paid for the many medals that have been given to the thousands of American soldiers
over the years. Their honor and duty for the United States are
honorable, and should be noted with every medal possible.
