Joe Camel Ashtrays
It seems as though that for as long as cigarettes and cigars have been
around, so have ashtrays. Many people collect ashtrays, as they are highly
collectible, and some think, fashionable as well. One of the vintage pieces
in ashtray history are Joe Camel ashtrays.
Ashtrays come in various shapes and sizes. One of the very popular ashtrays
to collect are the Joe Camel ashtrays. Joe Camel was a cartoon camel figure
that was created by the Camel cigarette company. After being an icon for
the Camel company for years, many adults claimed that the Joe Camel cartoon
was a way for the cigarette companies to lure young adults, and often times,
under aged teens to start smoking. Due to the pressure that the company was
facing, the Joe Camel picture was removed from billboards and anything else
that had to do with advertising.
Due to the pulling of the Joe Camel campaign, many of the vintage Joe Camel
cigarette items have become popular collectors pieces. The Joe Camel
ashtrays are available in many shapes, colors and sizes. The Joe Camel
cartoon is on these pieces, which distinguishes them from one another. Some
of the ashtrays may be round, with a porcelain white finish, while another
one is in the shape of a blue car, with Joe Camel driving, and a camel
friend in the passengers seat.
Many ashtray collectors today like to collect the Joe Camel designs because
it is no longer available. Even while the Joe Camel items were being mass
produced, some of them were limited editions, or created specifically for a
specific reason, such as a company anniversary. Due to this fact, these
collectible ashtrays can be seen sold at various prices. Even though Joe
Camel may no longer be with the Camel cigarette company, collectors still
flock to collect the now valuable ashtray pieces.
