Vintage Fun with Johnny Lightning Die Cast Cars
Die cast cars have made a huge wave in the toy market for many years. Young
boys, and grown men enjoy collecting and playing with the die cast cars.
There are many die cast companies that have created vintage models for many
years. One of the most popular die cast cars is the Johnny Lightning.
The history of the current Johnny Lightning production is an interesting
one indeed. The current toy company, Playing Mantis, is the producer of
today's version of the Johnny Lightning. Playing Mantis founder, Tom Lowe,
has always had a love and fascination for die cast cars. Twelve years ago,
in 1993, Tom was looking for new ventures to expand his toy company.
Remembering the nostalgic Johnny Lightning die cast cars of his childhood,
he did some background research. He found out that many people at the time
were paying a lot of money for collectors cars. He went and purchased a set
of die cast cars, in which he was given 20 Johnny Lightning cars. Wondering
what had ever happened to the Johnny Lightning cars, he looked the company
up. After discovering that the company that had produced the Johnny
Lightning cars had folded in 1971, Tom applied for a trademark license, and
he began to recreate the long-loved classic.
The Playing Mantis prides itself in the fact that they are the only die cast
toy car company to produce over 75 different models per year. Johnny
Lightning cars are made on a scale casting of 1:64, and are very detailed. Collectors will usually pay a high price for the original Johnny
Lightning cars produced by the Topper toy company. The Johnny Lightning
cars, are indeed, a die cast car that can last a lifetime.
