Hummel Figurines
There are many different items that can be collected as a decorative
collectible. Many people love to collect decorative figurines. Whether
they are passed down from one generation to the next, one of the most
beloved decorative figurines collected are Hummel figurines.
The history of Hummel figurines are indeed a very interesting one. A Sister
by the name of Maria Innocentia Hummel would love create images of children.
She had a keen eye for catching children in all of their childhood ways,
and would sketch the images on paper. After seeing the wonderful works of
art that sister Hummel had created, a gentleman by the name of W. Goebel
Porzellanfabrik was also intrigued with her artwork. Sister Hummel's works
ended up on German postcards. It was then that the head of the porcelain
company Goebel spotted her work, and knew that it would be a great success
for his figurine line. The first of the Hummel figurines were created and
released in 1935 and were an instant success. Although Sister Hummel dies at
the very young age of 37, she was fortunate enough to see her artwork put to
life with the three dimensional figurines.
The craftsmanship and standards of exceptional quality are still being
upheld with every Hummel figurine that is still created. Many of the
vintage Hummel figurines that still exist can be sold for hundreds of
dollars, depending on their condition. Antique stores, and on occasion, flea
markets, can be excellent locations to find the vintage Hummel figurines.
There are also dealers that purchase and sell strictly Hummel figures.
Locating such a dealer may seem difficult, but with the advance of
technology and resources, such as the internet, many dealers can be located.
Many people keep the Hummel figurines that have been in their family for
several generations. With the many Hummel figurines that are available for
purchase, there is bound to be at least one decorative Hummel figurine that
will truly touch ones heart.
