Vintage Hot Wheels - The "Hot" Die Cast Car
One of the hottest die cast cars that is available on the market are the Hot
Wheels cars. Either new or old, Hot Wheels are one of the most recognized
die cast cars that are available on the market today. Created under the
license of Mattel toys, vintage die cast car collectors truly like the rare
and hard to find Hot Wheels cars.
Originally introduced to the market in 1968, Mattel released 16 models of
cars. Some of the cars that were created were the Python, The California
Custom, and the Hot Heap. The new die cast cars proved to be sales
effective, as the profits that Mattel made in the first few years were
enormous. For the next few years, the Hot Wheels models grew. The last year
for production of the Hot Wheel cars in the US was in 1971. The next few
years of sales seemed to be a disappointing slump for the company, and as a
result there were very few models produced in the years
immediately following 1971. In turn, die cast Hot Wheels cars that were
manufactured in 1973 are some of the hardest models to locate. These models
include the Mongoose and the Snake. These models, as well as a few others
were only created that year, and any models that followed were only used for
one year. Therefore, the Hot Wheel cars that were produced in 1973 are by
far the most sought after collectible Hot Wheel cars. They are very
difficult to locate, due to the low manufacturing and rarity. Any collector
that comes across any of these models truly has a very rare and highly
profitable find.
Many companies were eager to carry the Hot Wheels cars, as they were quick
to realize how valuable, collectible and enjoyable the pieces are. In 1982,
McDonald's issued the Hot Wheels cars as a promotion. Many people collected
these, and today, they still prove valuable and collectible. Time has proven
to be good to the Hot Wheels, as they have risen from their slump years
ago, and are now one of the hottest selling die cast cars available.
