Military Helmets
Military outfits from all around the world have had various forms of protection
available to them when it comes time for battle. Some use
protective garments, while others use shields. One of the many forms of
protection that has been used by many military's all around the world for
thousands of years are helmets.
Helmets have served as a protective gear for many military companies. The
helmets have been worn over the heads of many military soldiers. Roman
soldiers wore helmets that were very distinctive. Their helmets were solid
metal, and had a mohawk effect going down the middle of the helmet. German
helmets were known to have spikes in the center of the helmet. These
distinctive designs were what differentiated the different militaries from
one another. It also helped soldiers on the battle field to know which soldiers
were on their side. This was beneficial to help prevent accidental
killings of one's comrades.
Today, many militaria collectors own helmets from different militaries.
Online resources prove as valuable resources for collectors that are looking
for vintage military helmets. Some helmets, even in good condition, can be
sold for hundreds of dollars. Although some of the helmets are a rarity,
they can be found with thorough searching. Books also prove as a valuable
resource for pricing vintage helmets. Often times, they are the most
accurate for pricing, as many books are updated and printed yearly, if not
several times throughout the year.
History has played an important role for the foundation for countries all
over the world. Many lives have been lost for the defense of ones country.
Military artifacts, such as helmets are indeed valuable and irreplaceable
pieces of a nation's past. Not only are they historical, but military
helmets are also tangible elements of battles fought in the past.
