Cigar Tins
Tobacco and tobacco products have been enjoyed for thousands
of years. From the ancient days of hand-rolled cigars in palm leaves, to the
modern day hand rolled cigars, tobacco products have played an important role
in American culture. Just as popular as the tobacco products, are the
vintage tins that they came in.
Tin cigar boxes have become a collectible piece in many tobacciana
collections. Many of the tins that are collected are dated back a hundred
years or longer. There are as many different tins created as there are
companies that have produced the tobacco products. Some of the tins are
round in shape and stand upright. These tins keep the cigars in an upright
stance, which does not effect the smoking quality of the cigars. Other tins
look like cigar boxes. These tins either have hinged lids, or the lids come
completely off. Cigar tins such as these have the cigars laying flat, and
often one on top of the other. Again, this does not effect the quality of
the cigar. In fact, many tins are seen as valuable to the consumer, as they
keep the cigars dry and protected from any outside sources of damage. Others
may argue with the tins and say that they dry out the cigars, as these
individuals agree that humidors keep the cigars moist, and at their fullest
taste. Either way, cigar tins are indeed a useful source of protection for
the cigars.
Vintage cigar tins can be seen at various selling prices. This selling price
of the tin all depends on the age and condition of the tin. Many people
collect the cigar tins solely on the fact that they are seeking tins from a
manufacturing company that no longer exists. Such tins are highly valuable
in and of itself. Tins of exquisite quality, larger size, and older in age,
can be seen being sold for a few hundred dollars. Many people are not even
aware of the valuable pieces of American history that they own. Others are
fully aware of the valuable pieces of time that they possess. The cigar tins
that they own many be passed down from one family member to another in order
to keep the tradition of cigar collecting alive in a family. Vintage cigar
tins are indeed pieces of Americana tobacco history that is visible for
all to see and share.
