Opening Memories with Vintage Beer Bottle Openers
Beers and liquors have played an important part of history. From the days of
the outlaws, to Prohibition, one thing is for certain; beers and liquors are
here to stay. One of the most common forms of vintage breweriana are beer
openers.
Beer openers seem to have been around for as long as beer.
Openers come in different shapes, lengths and sizes. Many beer companies
make their own beer openers as a form of advertisement for the company.
Older beer bottle openers have the name of the beer company stamped into the
bottle opener.
Almost all of the vintage beer bottle openers are created from pressed metal.
Openers usually have two operable ends. One end has a rounded side,
best to help pop the tops off of beer bottles. The other end of the beer
openers usually have a pointed end, which can be used to pierce cans. The
vintage beer openers fit in the palm of one's hand. The company logo or
slogan is often stamped into the middle of the beer opener. These types of
bottle openers are short and stubby. Other beer openers are called "flat
openers." These vintage openers are almost rectanglular in shape, with the
beer opener tapering from large to small from end to end. They are often
used for removing beer bottle caps.
In many older bars, there were beer openers that were placed behind the bar.
These beer openers were often be bolted to the back of the bar. The
bartender would open the beer for the patron behind the bar, and then serve
the customer's drink. Vintage beer openers that have been stripped from
an old bar, or that still remain behind a bar's counter, are often kept more
for sentimental value than monetary.
Beer bottle openers are truly a fun nostalgic piece. The vintage beer openers are
also very affordable too, often found on online auctions, such as eBay for
about $5.00 a piece. Memories can be opened and relived with vintage beer
bottle openers.
